At the Cutting Edge: Experimental Sounds of Asia

At the Cutting Edge: Experimental Sounds of Asia, curated by the Bagri Foundation, is a series of concerts celebrating new music from across Asia and the diaspora. The series brings together extraordinary experimental artists, many who have never performed in the UK and many for the first time on the same bill. From varied backgrounds and training, these natural born collaborators cite influence from across artforms.

The first concert on 7th November features the first solo performance of Filipina-American award winning composer, percussionist and sound artist Susie Ibarra (along with Sunn Trio and ICHI).

Alongside improvisation and experimentation with Susie Ibarra, the first concert in the series will also feature Arizona-based band Sunn Trio, who will perform an improvised jazz and desert-rock set and Japanese one-band man extraordinaire ICHI.

The Bagri Foundation, a UK registered charitable organisation, is celebrating arts and culture from across Asia.

A Filipino International Radio

A visitor wanted to tell us about his new music site Take a look: (A Filipino International Radio) has been created with the purpose of “bridging all the international Filipino communities in order for them to have one voice.”

Listeners may ask this question: “What makes different from all the other net radios?”

Aside from the kind of music that matches the liking of majority of the listeners, makes you feel at home, not just because you are listening to music that suits your taste, but rather it helps you build a certain bond with all the other listeners through being able to communicate with them; every listener has a privilege to voice out his or her thoughts, feelings and opinions and be a part of a world-wide community of happy and expressive people. This site, although especially made for Filipinos, is not exclusively for Filipinos. People of every color and race are very much welcome to join this community!

Pianist wants help organising a concert in the UK

Tom Tañada, who says he’s the resident pianist at the Walt Disney World, would like help organising a fund-raising concert. Please see his message below and contact him directly if you’re interested.

My name is Tom Tañada, the resident pianist at the Walt Disney World
Dolphin Hotel, a Starwood Resorts and Hotel in Orlando, Florida for more
than 20 years. I do concerts around the USA and Canada and have performed
around the world. Last year, I did a concert in Vienna, Austria, before
that was at the Hilton Hotel on the Nile River in Cairo, Egypt.

I would like to do a fund-raising concert for the Filipino Community in
Uk. I play selections from the broadway musical, popular classic, movie
themes, old and new songs, hometown favorites in a pop-musical approach,
music for the people.

Please visit my website for further info. at :

Regards to our kababayan,
Tom Tañada

FireFallDown – Band Promotion

I’m passing on a message from Markus C., from Filipino Students in The UK, about a band called Firefalldown. You can visit the band’s website at

Hey Fellow Filipinos,

I just want to flag a London-based band called FireFallDown for they have kindly asked me to message you all to promote their band and their upcoming London show. Two of the members of the band are actually pinoys (from Makati and Cabanatuan). So let’s show our warm support for them!

I was browsing through their site and their music is just incredible. You should visit:

They will also be doing a show (their last London show for the period!) on the 4th March at the Trinity Bar in Harrow (378-380 Station Road, Harrow, HA1 2DE).

It would be great if you can come along to this event – and possibly bring your friends with you!

Spread the word, alrighty? 😀
